Doughty's Roadshow fabrics are back in town - 10.30am until 2.30pm, in Thornbury, Bristol, 27th June 2015. It was this time last year that I shared my purchase with you, a bundle of 'Hearthside Seasons' fabric by Kim Diehl for Henry Glass which I planned to use for my 'Dear Jane' quilt. But I can't start the Dear Jane quilt until the Nearly Insane quilt is finished, which although close, is not done.
Meanwhile I have been developing my relationship with Kim Diehl fabrics, which includes the arrival of the 'Winter Blessings' half yard bundle this morning. All the backing fabric, the main fabric and block fabrics have been purchased for the Dear Jane quilt, but I will not let myself start until the Nearly Insane quilt is done. The intention was for my sister and I to do the Dear Jane quilt together, but she has stormed on ahead and has completed 135 blocks already.
To keep me quiet I have allowed myself to do one of Kim Diehl 'Simple Whatnot' quilts. They are only small and this one, 'Idaho Lily' is mainly half square triangles and some applique.
There is only so long I can look at this fabric, so having done one, I am ready for another.

156 blocks done now...another 14 before I start the triangle border
ReplyDeleteI'm also working on the Jane Stickle quilt. I need to piece the bottom border and the 4 corner blocks, then I'll have the piecing finished! I plan to start hand quilting her this fall. A friend and I intend to start Nearly Insane in January. She said we're going to have the top completed in 2 years! Idaho Lily is beautiful, what lovely fabrics.
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous little cutie! Lily patterns are some of my favorites and I like the simplified applique in this pattern. Even I might be able to do this!

ReplyDeleteYour Idaho Lily is lovely! How funny, the rules by which we allow ourselves and forbid ourselves to start new projects. I have been slowly accumulating fabrics for a Dear Jane as well, and bought the EQ Dear Jane software for printing block patterns, but I am forbidding myself from starting it until I sew myself a skirt and finish at least one of my other works-in-progress. Can you tell me more about the Nearly Insane quilt? I have heard mention of it several times online but I'm not familiar with that quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove your Idaho Lily... it's gorgeous! As for your Nearly Insane... it's amazing. I so admire that you are waiting to begin DJ until it's finished. As a dyed in the wool process person I can't resist a new project... however large. It's the bain of my life. Hopefully by reading your blog a bit of your self dicipline will rub off on me. Maybe I won't open my Nearly Insane book today after all.....lol
ReplyDeleteI admire your restraint to not start a Dear Jane until your Nearly Insane quilt is done. I have no such restraint, but it is refreshing to see that others do. Love the Idaho Lily!
