Dear Jane Quilt - Block L-9 Walter's Place

Dear Jane Quilt  Block - L9 Walter's Place
I thought I would start off on an easy block taken fro Draw 1.  Walter's Place (L9) was easy to do in English Paper Piecing - my preferred method of construction.  At the moment the papers are still in, but I do intend to remove these as I go along this time.  You may be able to see from the centre block that I have already started to do' fussy cutting'.  Once you start there is no going back.

As these blocks are only 4.5" they are much quicker than the Nearly Insane blocks - 29 pieces were done in no time at all.

Techniques: English paper Peicing
Pieces: 29

  1. It always surprises me how a block that looks very simple has some unexpected shapes in its construction.

  2. I love the orange fabrics you chose, Frances. I don't do paper piecing so my question is probably because I don't know much about it, but it looks like the orange points along the sides will be stitched away when you join this to either another block or sashing. What am I missing? (Or maybe having those points disappear is part of the pattern of this block?

  3. A nice start. Will you add the sashing as you go as well?

  4. So, a new journey begins.. As always, I will look forward to each block of the way. Initially I had thought that the background fabric might be a bit on the dark side but I was wrong. It works just fine. Beautiful.

  5. You had better start enjoying the applique as there is no escape in my experience... Start avoiding it and you won't enjoy the journey.
